Silverbell Road closure update

Two of our board members recently got an update on the status of the replacement bridge on Silverbell Rd. spanning the Blanco Wash. This is the main route accessing the Ironwood Forest National Monument, and historically was a one lane bridge with a very limited weight rating.

The construction crew on site reported that they are well on their way to constructing a two-lane bridge replacement. Our board members observed several massive concrete culverts about to be set in place. The foreman thought that their part of the project would be completed in late summer. They will then turn over the finishing work to Pima County for landscaping, signage and painting. The foremean couldn’t tell us when that would be completed for a final opening, but we are well on our way to having that route available again.

The pictures pictures are all facing east, from the access near Cocio Road.
