Advocacy
Below is a list of some of the activities that the all-volunteer board of Friends of Ironwood Forest carries out to advocate for the monument.
- Meet monthly to discuss projects, threats, and opportunities.
- A select group of our board meets quarterly with the BLM to review and plan activities that support improved management of the monument.
- Create and maintain relations with users and user groups who have an interest in the monument.
- Carry out outreach programs to build a constituency of people who can advocate for the monument when needed.
- Network with local, state, and national environmental organizations; Tohono O’odham tribal leaders;local businesses; municipal and state institutions; elected officials; University of Arizona students, clubs, and staff; and more to build relations that sustain and enhance our work.
- Participated in local and national BLM policy discussions.
